The Accounting Assistant is responsible for applying the principles of accounting to prepare financial documents and reports and ensure appropriate control procedures are being utilized. Performs a combination of calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain financial data for use in maintaining accounting records. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Posts payments to patient accounts in a timely and accurate manner.
· Scans, posts and balances all electronic and lockbox payments for both insurance and patient accounts efficiently, in an organized manner, on a daily basis.
· Maintains and documents follow up notes and denials updating rebill/denial log daily utilizing EOB/EFT.
· Identifies and reports payer payment and recoupment trends including in or out of network problems with carriers to designated patient account representative.
· Assists insurance specialists with questions regarding payment posting transactions.
· Maintains cash posting files in an organized manner.
· Manages Accounts Payable processes, including vendor relations, all check disbursements, 1099 vendor status, filing, etc. Key vendor invoices into the company computer system.
· Manages accounting functions including maintenance of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and project accounting; ensures accuracy and timeliness.
· Manages monthly closing of financial records and posting of month end information; ensures accuracy of financial statements. Maintains monthly spreadsheet for reconciliation of payments received/posted.
· Updates and maintains the daily cash log and monthly vendor list.
· Sorts, codes, and matches invoices. Reviews and verifies invoices. Processes invoices and prints checks for vendors and/or employees as approved.
· Assists in the preparation of facility month and year end reporting, statistical reports, budgets and financial reports.
· Works with insurance companies to verify status of outstanding claims, authorizations, dispute denials and have claims reprocessed on an as needed basis.
· Assists with payroll functions including processing payroll. Is a backup for payroll.
· Collects and processes information to prepare bi-weekly payroll and may reconcile payroll with source documents if applicable.
· Oversees petty cash fund if applicable.
· Checks the accuracy of figures, calculations and postings pertaining to business transactions recorded by others.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Complies with organizational policies, procedures, performance improvement initiatives and maintains regulatory and industry standards.
· Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
· Accepts responsibility for professional growth and development of self and attends all mandatory facility in-services and staff development activities as scheduled.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
· High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates’ degree in accounting/finance preferred.
· One or more years’ experience in accounts payable, payroll, accounting, or finance required, preferably in medical/psychiatric setting.
· Experience with current accounting software especially Accounts Payable and Payroll.
· Knowledge of general office procedures and electronic billing required.
· Accounting Software (QuickBooks, Kronos-UKG Payroll) experience a Plus but not required.

JOB DUTIES:
- Assist persons in learning basic living skills, adapting to the community environment and establishing supportive relationships within the community
- Assist persons in areas of personal care, home management, meal planning, shopping and health maintenance
- Provide Positive Behavioral Support in employment and community involvement
- Interact with parents, case managers and the public in a positive, professional manner
- Transport and meet persons supported at various community locations
- Maintain Individual Plans and satisfy all reporting requirement
REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must have a valid driver's license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation
- Ability to satisfy a background check and comply with company drug free workplace policy
- Experience with Positive Behavioral Support, behavior management and training programs desired but not required.
- A strong desire to enrich lives and the ability to train and foster skills development with participants
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to establish work priorities and work independently
- Ability to lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds of unbalanced weight
- Willingness to work a flexible, non--traditional schedule
